Another heavy rainfall and another plume of coloured water in the Niagara River.
For the second time since the summer, black coloured water was spotted around the Maid of the Mist dock on the U-S side of the lower Niagara River.
There were also reports of a strong smell of chlorine around the boat docks around 11:00 yesterday morning.
The Niagara Falls Water Board has issued a statement blaming the discharge on heavy and prolonged rainfall that caused a sewage treatment plant along the upper river to exceed capacity.
New York State's Department of Environmental Conservation has fined the water board $50,000 for a series of discharges including one on July 29th, that saw the water around the Maid of the Mist boat docks turn black.
The incident highlighted issues with outdated infrastructure on the American side of the river.
