Welland has lost another plant.
The parent company of Hopkins Steel informing its 17 workers this week, it is shutting down for good.
The company that owns the Broadway Avenue plant, Edmonton based Superior Group, blames the closure on the downturn in the oil industry.
A spokesperson for the United Steelworkers Union, which represents the workers says because the plant was so small, workers are not entitled to severance pay.
But he adds the union will sit down with management to try to negotiate some kind of severance package.
