A Brantford woman is speaking out after she says her request to join the reserves was turned down by the Canadian Forces because she is transgender.
24 year old Kennedy McArthur telling the CBC, the armed forces promotes inclusiveness and acceptance yet they slam the door in your face because you're not like everyone else.
Military officials citing privacy concerns would not comment on the case and would only say in general, the armed forces does not accept applicants in the middle of transitioning.
McArthur says she has finished the process.
A fact backed up by her doctor, Carys Massarella who is one of Southern Ontario's biggest champions for transgender rights and is the lead doctor at Quest Community Health Centre in St. Catharines which specializes in transgender care.
Dr. Massarella says from a medical prespective there was no reason to reject McArthur adding it flies in the face of what the government and military have been talking about for the last few years.
