Are voters engaged enough go to the polls? History isn't in our favour.
Voter turnout in Niagara has averaged around 40 percent in the last several municipal elections dating back to 2000.
According to http://www.livinginniagarareport.com/, voter turnout in Niagara's 12 muncipalities in 2014 ranged from a high of 52 percent in Wainfleet to a low of 34 percent in St. Catharines.
Other than Wainfleet, no city or town in the region saw voter turnout over 50 percent.
But with four years of controversy at the Niagara Region, and wide open mayoral races in five municipalities where the incumbent mayors have decided not to seek re election, the numbers may improve.
