An autopsy done in Ontario, on a Niagara Falls man killed while fighting ISIS militants in Syria, is painting a very different picture of his death.
Tina Martino, the mother of 24 year old Nazzareno Tassone whose remains were returned home earlier this month, says the Ontario coroner has ruled her son died after being struck in the head by shrapnel.
The finding conflicts with the results of an autopsy done by an Iraqi doctor who concluded Tassone died after being hit in the head by a large heavy object.
The Ontario coroner also questioning claims Tassone had been tortured.
The Iraqi doctor said he found cigarette burns on the victim's body, but the Toronto coroner says the circular marks on his body were likely caused by insect bites.
