After a short battle with cancer, Canadian journalist Christie Blatchford has passed away.
Blatchford was diagnosed with cancer in November 2019.
Her career started with the Globe and Mail in the early 1970's and at the time she was billed as Canada's first female sports reporter at a major paper.
Blatchford has also worked for the Toronto Sun, Toronto Star, and National Post.
In 2019 she won the George Jonas Freedom Award for "refusing to be intimidated" in pursuit of the truth and was also inducted into the Canadian News Hall of Fame.
Christie's columns earned her a National Newspaper Award in the late 1990's.
Blatchford was also an award winning author.
She wrote five books, including 15 Days: Stories of Bravery, Friendship, Life and Death from Inside the New Canadian Army which won the Governor General's Literary Award in 2008.
Christie was born in Quebec but had lived in Toronto since high school.
She was 68.
