Don't let today's wet weather discourage you from visiting Niagara beaches this weekend.
After today, the weekend is shaping up to be beautiful!
However, a few of Niagara's beaches have been listed as unsafe for swimming.
Glen Hudgin, Manager in Environmental Health with Niagara Region Public Health told CKTB's Larry Fedoruk that beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when water tests show unacceptable levels of E. Coli bacteria, or because of floating debris, oil, excessive weed growth, bad odours and general turbidity.
He says if you swim in those conditions you are at risk for infections of the eye, ear, nose, throat and skin.
Hudgin says you can also suffer intestinal issues from swallowing the water.
As of today, 6 Niagara beaches have been deemed unsafe:
- Charles Daley in Lincoln
- Crescent Beach in Fort Erie
- Nelles Beach in Grimsby
- Sherkston Quarry Beach in Port Colborne
- Wainfleet Lake Erie Public Access Beach in Wainfleet
- Waverly Beach in Fort Erie
