The grassroots initiative started in Winnipeg by Indigenous people to build relationships and break down barriers in the community.
Spokesperson Karen Orlandi tells CKTB the patrol will operate on downtown streets Friday and Saturday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. starting July 12.
She says "the goal is to meet people where they're at" and to build relationships with those who are living on the streets or hanging out downtown.
The Bear Clan Patrol also cleans up any drug paraphernalia.
Orlandi says volunteers will be trained on how to speak to people and pick up needles safely with help from Positive Living Niagara.
She says the Bear Clan operates in about 15 cities in Canada
