Public health has not issued a cold alert for Niagara yet, but surrounding areas have issued warnings.
The city of Hamilton has issued a Cold Weather Alert effective this evening with a low of minus 15.
Hamilton issues the alert when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below minus 15 degrees Celsius or minus 20 with wind chill.
In Niagara the low overnight is minus 15, and with the windchill it will feel like minus 24.
The high Friday is minus 8.
The cold snap will move out of the region by the weekend.
During cold weather, everyone is at risk, but those most at risk of developing a cold-related illness include infants and children, seniors, people living in poverty and / or without permanent shelter, and people who work or exercise outdoors.
