The body of an 18 year old male has been recovered following an incident at a campground in Niagara Falls.
Emergency services were on scene Friday in response to a report of a male who was swimming in the Welland River and began experiencing difficulty.
Niagara Falls Fire Platoon Chief Tom Warman says they could not get a visual when they arrived on scene.
"We responded to a male, possibly drowning in the river. There was no visual made by us. People on shore said they witnessed a male trying to swim across the river who went below the surface and did not come back up."
Bystanders attempted to help the victim but were unsuccessful.
Members of the NRPS Marine Unit recovered the body of the male who appeared to have drowned as a result of the incident.
Foul play is not suspected.
The victim's identity is not being released out of respect for the family.
