Niagara's Regional Chair is commenting on news that the timeline for expanded GO train service into Hamilton has been pushed back.
Hamilton's Mayor Fred Eisenburger directed a tweet at the Go Train operator over the weekend following a report which stated all day, 2-way train service from Hamilton to Toronto's Union Station won't be coming until 2031.
He tweeted that Metrolinx must do better.
Niagara Chair Jim Bradley says that timeline seems long, but he's sure Metrolinx officials will do everything they can to move that up.
Currently Niagara has just one GO train leaving in the morning and another returning in the afternoon.
The train runs Monday-Friday and starts in Niagara Falls at 5:19am, stops in St.Catharines 5:41am, at the West Harbour station in Hamilton at 6:39am, and arrives at Union Station in Toronto at 7:50am.
In the evening, the train leaves Union Station at 5:15 p.m. to head to Hamilton, St.Catharines and Niagara Falls.
Train service is not available on the weekends in Niagara, and the timeline for adding more trains is up in the air.
Bradley says he doesn't think this latest news will impact Grimsby getting GO train service by 2021.
Plans for the Grimsby expansion were altered in early December prior to the St.Catharines and Niagara Falls daily train announcement.
Metrolinx sent a letter to the Niagara Region announcing that the "delivery process"of new GO stations had been halted because the Ontario PC's are seeking third-party investment to build them.
MPP Sam Oosterhoff says that doesn't mean daily GO train service won't be coming on time, he says plans could even be fast-tracked if they find a developer to take the lead on the project.
It's not clear if a third party developer has expressed interest in building the Grimsby GO train station.
