Brazil is rejecting $40 million in aid from the G-7 to fight fires in the Amazon rainforest and plant new trees.
French President Emmanuel Macron is shrugging it off, saying the money is aimed at nine countries in the region and is a sign of friendship, not aggressiveness.
About 60 per cent of the Amazon region is in Brazil but the vast forest also spans parts of eight other countries.
Yesterday, Brazil's president accused G-7 countries of treating the region like a colony, something Macron calls a mistaken interpretation.
