A blow to Niagara's workforce following a strike in the London area.
As of Monday 255 workers at St.Catharines GM plant will be laid off.
Unifor Local 199 President Greg Brady says the the Glendale Ave. plant builds transmissions that supply the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, and that line will become idle Monday impacting 255 workers.
Brady also breaking news on CKTB's Larry Fedoruk show that SpencerARL in Niagara Falls, which is also represented by Unifor Local 199 will be impacted by the CAMI strike laying off 180 workers come Monday.
That's a total of 435 jobs in Niagara alone.
Meantime, the union representing 25-hundred striking workers at G-M Canada's CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll says it has invited the company to restart talks.
Unifor Local 88 president Dan Borthwick says the union is sticking to its demand that the plant be designated the lead producer of the Chevrolet Equinox.
He says that's to ensure production and jobs aren't shifted to Mexico.
Job security has become a major issue since G-M shifted production of its Terrain S-U-V from the Ingersoll plant to Mexico earlier this year at a cost of more than 400 jobs.
