As expected Canada's jobless rate has soared as the economy lost close to two million jobs last month.
Statistics Canada says the loss of 1,993,800 jobs comes on top of more than one million jobs lost in March and that has sent the unemployment rate soaring to 13 percent, the second highest its ever been on record.
The unemployment rate in Ontario climbed to 11.3 percent up from 7.6 in March.
Locally the rate for St. Catharines/Niagara is 9.9 percent.
Meantime south of the border, the April jobs report has found U.S. employers cut 20.5 million workers off their payroll last month sending the jobless rate to 14.7 percent.
