We finally have an update for you, four months after an NRP officer shot another police officer in Pelham.
The SIU has arrested and charged Sergeant Shane Donovan with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in the November 29th incident.
Detective Sgt. Shane Donovan and Constable Nathan Parker got into an argument during a traffic reconstruction investigation in the area of Roland Road and Sulphur Springs Drive when shots were fired leaving Parker with gunshot wounds.
In a release, Director of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Tony Loparco says he has reasonable grounds to believe that criminal offences were committed.
52-year-old Constable Parker has been with the NRP for 28 years, and has had a troubled past with four disciplinary hearings against him.
Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch made a statement following the news of Donovan's arrest saying there is little doubt that this incident has had a tremendous impact on the community and he is asking the public to respect the judicial process and allow the matter to continue to unfold before the courts.
Sergeant Donovan is required to appear in court on April 18.
He has been suspended with pay.
At a press conference, Acting Police Chief Bill Fordy said he's unaware of any prior issue with Donovan's employment.
