The former police officer charged in the death of George Floyd's death was sentenced today.
Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison for Floyd’s murder.
He was found guilty of all charges at the conclusion of his trial in April 2021.
Victim impact statements were read in court today from Floyd's family, including from his young daughter.
Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill also denied a request for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to have a new trial.
Most legal experts were expecting Chauvin to get anywhere from ten to 30 years behind bars.
