Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders has announced he will step down.
Saunders will work with Toronto police for another two months, saying his resignation from the top job will take effect July 31st.
He has held the position since 2015, and was set to remain in the post until at least 2021.
Saunders held a news conference saying he is looking forward to spending time with his family this August.
When asked if his health is a reason for his retirement, he said no.
Saunders received an organ donation from his wife in 2017 as he suffered from kidney disease.
He said he is a 'free agent' following a few months off, and hopefully he will get to work in the city.
At first he joked that he wanted to be a politician, but went onto say he is very passionate about helping the young black community in the city.
