Dozens of unhappy workers have walked off the job as we await a formal announcement from GM amid concerns the Oshawa Assembly Plant will be shutting down.
Workers have told reporters union leaders are telling members to go home before a union meeting this afternoon.
This morning, Greg Brady, President of Unifor Local 199, said the potential closure does not mean big changes in St. Catharines, "We do have some production that goes to Oshawa but not major volumes, so there is some, but nothing that will affect us dramatically right now." Brady adds, "I would say mabe 20% of our engines went to Oshawa but our main customer is Fort Worth in Texas."
GM has yet to make an official announcment about the fate of the plant where more than 2,500 people work.
