Welland city officials are considering options to replace Forks Road Bridge as residents in Dain City remain frustrated.
The city closed the bridge indefinitely at the beginning of November after engineering staff noticed the structure was deteriorating faster than expected.
During a meeting last week, city staff, councillors, emergency services, and members of the Dain City Bridge Committee met to discuss the ongoing closure.
At this point, engineers are analyzing the extent of the corrosion to put together a timeline for how long the bridge will be able to support pedestrians.
Officials say fixing up the bridge would be too costly, and so they are examining replacement alternatives.
City staff will make a presentation to council during the December 11th meeting.
In the meantime maintenance plans are being put in place to ensure emergency services have access to Dain City via the canal service roads.
