State officials in California are considering an interim measure to try and prevent suicides from a San Diego Bridge.
Until funding is put in place to put up suicide barriers on the Coronado Bridge, the state is looking to install bird spikes as a temporary solution.
One man who survived a leap from the bridge says it would at the very least provide an opportunity for someone to come up behind and stop you.
Steven Bouchard tells local media it only takes seconds to pull somebody back.
It's an issue that hits home.
This past fall, the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines was the scene of several high profile suicides which prompted call for permanent suicide prevention barriers to be erected on the span.
The region's public health committee recently approved spending $4 million to put the barriers up on the span.
The move still needs the approval of regional council.
