British Prime Minister Theresa May says she's planning to call a general election for Thursday, June 8th.
In a surprise statement outside her Downing Street residence today, May said Parliament will be asked tomorrow to vote for the election.
May's Conservative Party is way ahead of the main opposition Labour Party in opinion polls, and a resounding election win would bolster her mandate in upcoming talks with the European Union over Britain's exit from the bloc.
The British P-M can call an election if two-thirds of lawmakers vote for it and the leader of the main opposition Labour Party has said he would back such a call.
