As you send your children to school today, you may wonder whether that backpack they're carrying is too heavy?
A Brock University professor wants to ease parents concerns noting there is little evidence to show backpacks may cause long term back pain.
Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Michael Holmes says “If a backpack has a reasonable amount of weight in it and fits correctly, children are not wearing it long enough for long-term damage to occur.”
Holmes noting a good backpack has wide, padded shoulder straps and a padded back.
It should be light when it's empty and not loaded down with fancy hardware that adds weight.
For sizing the bottom of the pack should sit at waist level.
