Brock University students will have new ways to work with seniors to keep them fit and moving.
A new partnership between the University and Wellness Suites Condominiums will see Kinesiology and Health Sciences students guiding seniors through personalized exercise and rehabilitation programs as an expansion of the SeniorFit and Heart Strong program already being offered at the Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being.
"As the current SeniorFit and Heart Strong programs have already been successful — helping 450 clients a year with health-related goals — it’s a matter of expanding and introducing those programs in the new facility," Wellness Suites President Dr. Nick Vaccaro. "We want to grow with the University and expand research parameters into the genetic, molecular and cellular levels. We are currently working at partnering with other highly innovative diagnostic companies."
The Main Street suites are still under construction - officials hope to open the project in September of next year.
Students will be using a mixture of biology, computer science, math, and statistics to track and analyze their clients' results to see which lifestyle changes are the most effective.
