With the prolonged hot dry weather The City of Niagara Falls has issued a ban on all open air burning until further notice.
Fire Chief Jim Boutilier called for a ban due to the recent hot and dry weather and the increased risk of a fire burning out of control by quickly spreading to nearby grass,
plants and buildings.
Included in the ban is all open-air burning which includes cooking fires, consumer fireworks and other types of outdoor burning.
The open-air burning ban will remain in place until the risk of fire spreading has been reduced to a manageable level by sustained rainfall and cooler temperatures.
Barbecues and other gas appliances are permitted under the ban.
Residents who do not comply with the open air burning ban face fines ranging from 2-thousand to 50-thousand dollars.
