The town impacted by a massive car fire last weekend has now issued an open air burning ban.
Niagara-on-the-Lake officials say due to the current dry conditions an open air burning ban is in effect until further notice on all open-air burning including cooking fires (except barbeques and other gas appliances), consumer fireworks and all other types of outdoor burning.
Failure to comply may result in charges under the Ontario Fire Code and/or user fee charges for Fire Department response.
It was last Sunday a fire swept through a dry hayfield on Niagara Stone Road which was being used as parking for the Niagara Lavender Festival.
34 cars were involved in the blaze with a damage estimate ranging between 1.2 and 1.5 million dollars.
Fire Chief Rob Grimwood says he warned festival organizers about the danger of fire given the dry conditions.
No one was hurt.
An open air burning ban is also in effect in Niagara Falls, Lincoln and Pelham.
The ban will remain in place until there is some sustained rainfall and cooler temperatures.
