Politicians and animal activists want the Ontario government to take action on Marineland, the tourist attraction in Niagara Falls where 14 whales and one dolphin have died since 2019.
They are also calling on the province to be more transparent about its work at Marineland and the zoos and aquariums it is charged with inspecting to ensure animal welfare laws and standards are being met.
The M-P-P for Niagara Falls, New Democrat Wayne Gates, says the government must act.
Interim Liberal Leader John Fraser says he's concerned the government buried the news of the animals deaths for years and called for more transparency.
The Canadian Press revealed in August that 14 whales and one dolphin had died at the park since 2019.
The province's Animal Welfare Services has been inspecting Marineland since 2020.
The group Animal Justice says it's disappointed that nothing seems to have changed since the Marineland revelation was made public.
Solicitor General Michael Kerzner says the government takes animal welfare seriously, but refused to provide any details on what the province is doing at the park.
Marineland did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
