Ontario legislators are debating the idea of using cameras on school buses to nab drivers who blow past the vehicles while children are getting on or off.
A pilot project that tested the technology this spring in Brantford, Mississauga, Sudbury and Kitchener-Waterloo found it was common for drivers to illegally pass school buses that had stopped to let children on or off.
The Wynne government, however, says it isn't ready to commit to putting cameras on school buses without further study.
The current fine for passing a stopped school bus is 490-dollars -- plus six demerit points.
