After 14 months of talks, Canada and the U.S. have finally agreed to a free trade pact.
In a joint statement, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and U.S. trade representative Robert Lighthizer announced the new deal will result in freer markets and fairer trade.
The three way pact will now be known as the U.S-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement or USMCA.
An official says it exempts tariffs on 2.6 million cars and while it does give the U.S. more access to our dairy markets it does preserve supply management of the sector.
Prime Minister Trudeau is calling it a good day for Canada.
After leaving a late night cabinet meeting last night, Trudeau told reporters he would have more to say today.
