The Government of Canada is revealing new details linking the Russian military to cyberattacks within Canada and abroad.
According to a release from Global Affairs Canada malicious cyber attacks were launched in 2016 against the World Anti-Doping Agency headquartered in Canada, and the Canadian Centre for Ethics In Sport. Government officials write they have 'high confidence that the Russian military's intelligence arm, the GRU, was responsible.'
More recently, Canadian allies revealed that in April 2018 following the use of a Novichock agent in the UK, the Russian military tried to use its cyber-capabilities to access official networks for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Around the world, the Netherlands has ousted four Russians who allegedly targeted the OPCW while seven Russians are now facing hacking charges from the US.
