The Carlisle Street/Garden Park Parking Garage in downtown St. Catharines will close temporarily on Labour Day weekend for regular maintenance.
The city began closing the parking garage on weekends this month to replace its waterproof membrane, a thin rubberized coating on the concrete that gets worn away due to regular vehicle traffic and needs to be replaced every few years.
In a release the city says the contractor has determined that the new coating needs more than two days to cure, and as a result, the parking garage will now be closed only on the Labour Day weekend from 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5.
The good news it will no longer close on weekends in August.
The city says all vehicles must be out of the parking garage at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.
Membrane work produces dust and debris and any vehicle left in the garage is done so at the owner’s risk.
