History buffs have a rare opportunity to take a look at a piece of Welland's history today.
A special open house and street party is being held at the Central Firehall from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The fire hall originally opened back in 1920, and a group known as the Central Station Education Initiative is fundraising to restore the hall to its former glory.
To help with that, President Nora Reid says they are opening the doors to reacquaint the public with the historic building.
"We're going to let people have a look inside, I'm going to talk about the history, we've got a few of the retired firefighters who actually worked in the building floating around and talking to people about what's happening."
The day includes live music, food, a kids' corner, and even antique fire trucks.
Reid says fundraising for the restoration work will start soon.
Down the road, the Initiative hopes to maintain the lower floor as a time capsule while renting out the top floor.
Hellems Avenue between East Main and Division street will be closed for the event today.
