Students in Ontario will need to start weaning themselves off cell phone use at school as the government announces the timing of an upcoming ban.
Starting November 4th, cell phone use in the classroom will be restricted during 'instructional time.'
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says, "When in class, students should be focused on their studies, not their social media."
According to government spokespeople, 97% of parents, students, and teachers who took part in an education consultation agreed with that sentiment, stating, 'cellphone use should be restricted in some way.'
Exceptions will be made for students who need access to a phone for medical purposes, to support special education needs, or for education purposes as directed by an educator.
