With MP's agreeing to extend the Canada Emergency Response Benefit another eight weeks, a small business group wants recipients to prove they need it.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says CERB has created a labour shortage for small businesses trying to reopen.
The federation's Dan Kelly says about a third of employers right now are struggling with staffing and that's with millions of Canadians unemployed.
Some workers, who make minimum wage, are telling employers they don't want to come back to work.
Kelly notes, while some have legitimate reasons like child care, many employers are hearing "check with me in the fall."
He believes CERB should stay in place but there should be rules, like showing proof your job is no longer there or that you are actively looking for work.
