The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reporting more than 600 tips of alleged misuse of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) in the first 24 hours of a snitch line being launched.
The CRA says 190-thousand Canadians have so far, had to repay their CERB benefits because they weren't actually eligible.
The government says many people applied simply out of confusion during the early days of the program and later determined they weren't eligible.
The federal government established the CERB program back in March to help Canadians who couldn’t work due to the COVID-19 pandemic
It offers $2,000 per month for up to four months.
