Niagara's Regional Chair issuing a news release this afternoon that he's filed a freedom of information submission with the Office of the Regional Clerk requesting all available Regional Council expense claims since January 1, of 2010 and also for twenty years of Regional Council remuneration.
Alan Caslin says the request will trigger legislative requirements ensuring all available Regional Council expense information will be compiled for release in a timely manner.
He says the action is another step forward in and effort to be accountable and transparent.
Last week it was revealed that the head of FOI's is no longer employed at the Region and that both the regional and deputy clerks have resigned their positions effective this coming Friday.
It's not clear who at the Region will be handling this latest filing, but they did issue the following statement.
"With the recent personnel changes within the Clerk’s office, the leadership team at Niagara Region has taken the appropriate steps to ensure we have resourced these requests appropriately. As always, the Region’s Clerk, or acting Clerk, will remain ultimately responsible for servicing FOI requests"
