The Chair of the 2021 Canada Summer Games is disputing any claims that things are falling behind.
Last week Thorold Councillor Jim Handley told CKTB he was worried about the future of the games in Niagara because government funding commitments hadn't come through.
Chair Doug Hamilton says things are not falling behind.
"We've been working with all four levels of government to identify any additional funding needs we have, and that's been going on for several months. But we don't even have to start building the facilities - our plan would see us tendering for the construction starting next September, with construction starting in November.
Hamilton says if they don't get the funding they are hoping for, they won't build some of the proposed facilities.
"If it's a concern about infrastructure that we may be left on the hook for as taxpayers after the Games, that concern won't happen because we're not going to build anything for which we don't have funding."
He also pointed to the track Games' track record.
"We're the 28th Games, none of the Games have had a deficit, many have had significant surpluses."
The 2021 games are expected to provide an economic benefit of 200 million dollars to the Niagara Region.
