The city of St.Catharines says a new look for St. Paul Street is on the way.
City officials say in 2017, the area of St. Paul Street and Carlisle Street will be reconstructed to be made more pedestrian friendly.
Before construction begins, the City will use pylons and other traffic control devices at the intersection of St. Paul Street and Carlisle Street and in front of the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre to study how the new road design will affect traffic flow.
The simulated road layout will also help determine whether the new design will meet the needs of St. Catharines Transit.
Drivers can expect the following road restrictions when pylons and traffic calming measures are installed on Monday, Nov. 14:
-Dedicated left-hand turn lanes removed from St. Paul Street onto Carlisle Street. Left-hand turns will still be allowed, only the dedicated left-hand turn lanes are being removed.
-Removal of some on-street parking on St. Paul Street, north and south of Carlisle Street.
The simulated road layout will be in place for several weeks or until the first snowfall.
Road reconstruction work on St. Paul Street and Carlisle Street will begin spring 2017 and take until the end of summer to complete.
Road designs are still being finalized, but work will include full road reconstruction, new sidewalks, accessible traffic signals, new street lights and the installation of new landscaping, trees and furniture.
