A Niagara police officer convicted in a lucrative cheese smuggling operation has lost a bid to appeal his conviction.
Constable Scott Heron served several months in jail for his role in the smuggling ring, which involved another Niagara police officer.
Heron and former officer Geoff Purdy smuggled abut $133,000 dollars worth of cheese and other food across the border and then sold it to local restauarants.
The pair managed to avoid paying $325,000 in duty.
Heron launched an appeal of his conviction on the grounds it jeopardizes his future employment with the NRP, but a judge has ruled there are no grounds for an appeal.
Heron has been suspended without pay from the force pending the outcome of a Police Services Act hearing.
