A World War II veteran has raised more than $18,500 for Hotel Dieu Shaver with just days to go before his 100th birthday.
Chuck Page initially set out to raise $5,000 for patient care equipment by walking 100 laps of his housing complex before his birthday.
Now, with the big celebration coming up on Sunday, he has more than tripled his original goal.
Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation staff say he has strong ties to their organization after his brother was a volunteer and his wife Irene received treatment while rehabilitating from a fractured pelvis.
Page is a Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber Command Veteran and was a POW in WWII.
He was shot down over Holland in 1943 and held by the Nazis for two years before making his escape.
