This could make forĀ a very interesting municipal election campaign this fall.
The Ford Tories announcing details of their pot plan yesterday which includes allowing sales of cannabis in private retail outlets.
The outlets won't open until April 1st of next year but the province says it will give municipalities a ``a one-time window'' where they can opt out of permitting physical cannabis retail stores within their boundaries.
The Ford government will consult with muncipalities on the plan and promises to give them $40 million over two years to offset costs, including law enforcement.
Pot will be sold online beginning October 17th when recreational marijuana becomes legal through a government agency called the Ontario Cannabis Store.
The retail model will follow next spring.
