The City of St. Catharines is asking residents to turn away door-to-door salespeople claiming to be authorized by the city.
These salespeople have been knocking on doors with offers to install water filters or inspect hot water tanks. The city does not authorize organizations to do this on its behalf.
Manger of Environmental Services Mark Green says "Residents should always ask to see ID when someone presents themselves as being from the City. City employees are required to present photo identification before asking to enter your home. "
Residents should not hand over any bills, contracts, or statements to these scammers - simply ask the person to leave and contact police if the salesperson becomes aggressive.
