The city of Niagara Falls wants residents to know they are taking their concerns seriously surrounding reports of a growing number of rats in some neighbourhoods.
Gerald Spencer, the city's Municipal Enforcement Services Manager says city crews are currently baiting sewers around the falls in the hopes of controlling the rodent population.
Spencer says they are also working with individual homeowners who have lodged complaints, canvassing their streets and removing debris and junk from yards that might attract rats.
He adds it's hard to determine the exact source of the rat problem, but garbage and even bird feeders can attract the pests.
Spencer notes all the construction around the city could also be a source causing the rodents to look for new homes.
