The city of Thorold reminding local residents to clear the snow from sidewalks or face a fine.
A city bylaw adopted last year, requires all property owners to clear the snow from any sidewalk along the perimeter of their property within 24 hours after a winter storm ends.
Last year, the city didn't enforce the bylaw to give staff time to educate the public.
But this winter, homeowners who don't clear the snow will face a charge of $10.00 per linear metre if they leave snow or ice on the sidewalk.
Property owners with vacant land are also required to remove snow and ice.
City officials also ask to help out your neighbours if they are unable to clear their sidewalk.
