GO train, sex ed in schools, and soaring hydro rates are a few of the issues tackled by candidates running in the Niagara West-Glanbrook provincial by-election.
CKTB hosted a debate this afternoon with host Tom McConnell.
Sam Oosterhoff of the Progressive Conservative Party, Vicky Ringuette of the Liberal Party, and NDP's Mike Thomas taking part in the debate.
The first topic was the new sex ed curriculum in schools.
A Facebook post of Sam Oosterhoff's insinuated that he was opposed to Kathleen Wynne's changes to the sex ed curriculum.
However, PC Leader Patrick Brown recently said that Oosterhoff supports the curriculum.
When asked for his opinion, Oosterhoff said that the issue isn't "black or white", to which both Ringuette and Thomas argued that it is and they both support it.
Moving on to Hydro One and increasing hydro rates in Ontario, Thomas says he believes that selling Hydro One is a mistake.
Ringuette says she understands that people don't like the price hike, but it is necessary to modernize and bring clean energy.
Oosterhoff countered by saying that families can't afford to live tripled hydro rates, saying he will hold the Liberal government accountable.
When it comes to bringing GO to Niagara in 2021, Oosterhoff says the PC party plans to bring train service here by 2019, two years earlier than the Liberal Party has promised.
Ringuette countered by asking how they plan to do that, saying Oosterhoff was making promises with no plans.
Thomas says the sooner the better and worries about the project being cancelled in general.
The debate airs again tonight on CKTB at 6pm.
The by-election will be held November 17th.
