Severe weather cost the Insurance Bureau of Canada a whopping 1.9 billion dollars in insured damage last year.
That's the 4th highest amount of losses ever recorded.
An Ontario windstorm in May that cost 410-million dollars and damage from summer storms across the Prairie provinces coming in at 240-million in damages helped add to the total cost.
A spokesperson for the I-B-C says climate change is costing Canadian taxpayers, government and businesses billions annually.
The association is urging investment in new infrastruture protections to help protect communities from floods and fires and improved building codes to help alleviate the problem.
