Councillors in an eastern Ontario community have voted to suspend the pay of the mayor for 270 days after he was found to have broken the code of conduct three times.
The penalty imposed last night on Carleton Place Mayor Louis Antonakos was the steepest allowed under the municipal act.
Some residents who attended the council meeting to call for Antonakos to step down wore pink, the colour of anti-bullying.
But the mayor says he will not resign and instead has requested a judicial inquiry to prove his innocence.
