The computers at Community Care in St. Catharines and Thorold are back up and running after a cyberattack that shut them down for more than a week.
The local food bank was the target of a ransomware attack that struck June 28th.
CEO Betty-Lou Souter says the computers displayed a message saying their files had been encrypted and to get them back they would have to pay a $3,000 bitcoin ransom.
Thankfully, all the files had been backed up and the system was restored using the saved files.
Souter says the hack did not effect any client information files because they are stored separately on a cloud program.
