The Niagara Regional Police service member, who was convicted in a lucrative cheese smuggling operation, has resigned from police services.
In September 2015, Constable Scott Heron was found guilty of conspiracy to smuggle cheese and other foods into Canada from the United States without paying duty, and breach of trust.
He was sentenced to four months in jail.
Heron was suspended without pay at that time which continued until his resignation.
Heron and former officer Geoff Purdy smuggled about $133,000 dollars worth of food across the border and then sold it to local restaurants.
The pair managed to avoid paying $325,000 in duty.
