Could you get ready for your day in 6 minutes?
That's the challenge being set by the private sector union Unifor in an effort to highlight the plight of personal support wrokers (PSW's) in Ontario's long term care facilities.
The union says on average PSW's have approximately six minutes to ready each resident for the day ahead.
That means the workers have to wake their patient, help them into the washroom or change their incontinence protection, assist them getting dressed and handle their medications all in six minutes before moving on to help the next senior.
In an effort to attract attention to the problem, the union is asking people to document their attempts at getting ready for the day in 6 minutes or less and post the results on social media with the hashtag 6minchallenge (#6minchallenge).
Unifor represents the province's 9-thousand long term care home workers.
