Wind, snow and frigid temperatures hampering the search for three bodies inside a home in Port Colborne that was gutted by fire early yesterday morning.
Heavy equipment is once again on the scene today, sifting through the debris.
NRP Constable Phil Gavin tells CKTB the priority today is recovering the bodies of a mother and her two children who weren't able to escape the burning home.
The children's 83 year old great grandmother was pulled from the home but pronounced dead on scene.
Gavin says they need to first move some of the debris outside before they move on to the main structure to shift through what remains of the home.
He says the structure is compromised so they are moving through a slow and methodical process while they also collect evidence for an investigation to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
The Ontario Fire Marshall office has anticipated the process to take two to three days before they are able to clear the scene.
Police have not named the victims, but friends and family identify them as 37-year-old Tammy Burd, her two children, aged 15 and 2, as well as their grandmother, 83-year-old Eva Burd.
Two men, including the children's father, were able to escape the flames.
Gavin adding the outpouring of support from grief from the community has been felt on-scene with many stopping by to support and help first responders and nearby Port Cares offering shelter and an area for the command centre.
